On Time in the Larger Sense

Time in Eberron is organized into days, weeks, months and years.  Years in the current age typically are written as "years of the kingdom" (YK), which starts with the formation of the Kingdom of Galifar.

There are twelve months: Zarantyr, Olarune, Therendor, Eyre, Dravago, Nymm, Lharvion, Barrakas, Rhaan, Sypheros, Aryth, and Vult.  Each month is associated with a dragonmark. Each year begins with Zarantyr and ends with Vult. Winter lasts from Vult to Olarune; Spring lasts from Therendor to Dravago; Summer lasts from Nymm to Barrakas; and Autumn lasts from Rhaan to Aryth.

Each month has four seven-day weeks.  The days of the week are Sul, Mol, Zol, Wir, Zor, Far, and Sar.  Each month starts on a Sul, ends on a Sar, and contains twenty-eight days.

The Road to the Creation Forge

Wir, 11 Therendor, 998 YK

The party started East from the , following Zanne's direction toward the Creation Forge.

The way to the Creation Forge

On the way to the Creation Forge, the party approached a fork in the road.  Zanne ran ahead to double-check the sign at the fork, when, suddenly, the ground gave way from under his feet.  Zanne lept to safety at the last minute.  The rest of the party drew their weapons and took position around the gaping hole in the ground, looking to the bushes and trees near the pit.  This surely smelled like a trap.

A mob of goblin skirmishers emerged from the cover on the side of the road and among their ranks was a hulking goblin skull cleaver brandishing a large axe.  Pierce lunged at the skull cleaver, dealing a deft blow and inciting the goblin's rage. Zanne let fly a bolt, only to misfire and hit the trunk of a nearby tree. Rolen flew into action, throwing two goblins into the pit.  Thia quickly ran to aide Pierce's effort.

In the midst of the battle, the adventurers were able to make out a moaning from the east.  The battle raged on.  As the tide of battle turned in favor of our heroes, two of the goblins began to flee, going North.  As the skull cleaver was finished off by Thia, one of the goblins decided to run East for the cover of nearby trees.  Thia gave pursuit and let loose an arrow into the goblin's back, but the goblin did not flinch - his attention was elsewhere despite the searing pain of an arrow wound.

Rolen ran toward the fleeing goblin for an assist when he noticed two wolf-like creatures behind the trees.  The grabbed the goblin and downed him in one fell swoop.  As they had quickly felled the goblin, the grave hounds turned their attentions toward Rolen.  Rolen noted that the grave hounds did not move as a normal wolf, but with the stagger of the undead. The party turned their weapons toward the grave hounds fell them after some small concentrated efforts.  As the din died down on the field of battle, a moan was still heard toward the east.

Thia searched behind the stand of trees from which the grave hounds had emerged and found a goblin skirmisher, nearly dead and bleeding fast.  She looked down at him with disgust and asked the creature what had happened.  The goblin was rolling on the ground, suffering from the attack by the grave hounds, but he still managed to eek out the words "Bad mead" before losing consciousness.  Thia proceeded to kick the goblin to make sure he was dead - and no life was left in the vile creature.

Pierce looked up at the sign post in the road. Zanne, noticing the confusion of the Warforged, walked up to the sign to explain the meaning of it to Pierce. One sign pointed East and had a beer mug on it, indicating a public house where rest and drink could be had.  The other sign pointed South and had a tombstone on it, probably indicating a cemetery.  Zanne had only ever been past the public house and had not passed by the cemetery before.

Novakri proceeded toward the southern fork in the road and spotted a trap.  With the help of Thia and Rolen, the trap was disarmed and found to be yet another pit trap.  This seemed odd indeed.  The three stared at the trap and the remains of the ambush and wondered.

Zanne urged the party on toward the Creation Forge, but Thia and Rolen convinced him that the Creation Forge could wait and that the source of the grave hounds and possibly the ambush might lie to the South.

The aftermath of the ambush
The party bandaged their wounds and took the fork South toward the cemetery, hoping to find some semblance of reason for the ambush.

Rest and Prologue

As the adventurers set in for the night at the watchtower, they got to talking and learned more about eachother.

Thia and Rolen had been traveling together, leaving the City of Towers, Sharn, but did not say much of their reasons for doing so.

Thia had been put through assassin training by House Cannith, but she was no longer needed at the end of the war and took her first chance to leave the ranks of House Cannith.
Name: Thia
Race: Elf
Class: Ranger
Weapon: Long Bow

Rolen had fought in the Last War for House Lyrandar.  He had been part of the crew of an air ship, but hesitated to elaborate too much.  He did mention that he had met Thia during the Last War while he was transporting her.
Name: Rolen
Race: Half-elf
Class: Ranger
Weapon: Long Swords (dual)

Novakri had been wandering to Sharn and explained that she was on a spiritual journey.  She relayed that the Sovereign Host had sent her on a quest to heal someone who she did not yet know in the City of Towers.
Name: Novakri
Race: Kalashtar
Class: Paladin
Weapon:  Long Sword

Zanne explained that he had been looking for spare parts at the Cannith creation forge, but had been ambushed by goblins upon exiting the compound.
Name: Zanne
Race: Human
Class: Artificier
Weapon: Crossbow

Pierce did not have much to say.  He was as he was built and that was all.  The news of the end of the Last War did not seem to phase him as he had no knowledge of the Last War to begin with.  The more questions the adventurers asked of him, the more that they realized that Pierce was a clean slate, almost as if he had just been brought into the world for the first time when he was placed over the sigil.
Name: Pierce
Race: Warforged
Class: Fighter
Weapon: Greatsword

The adventurers agreed to set out in the morning for the Cannith creation forge.  Some were more concerned with the creation date of Pierce.  All were intrigued at the aspect of the wonders that the creation forge might contain.

More Goblins

Mol, 9 Therendor, 998 YK

The party inquisitively followed Rolen as he peeked out what used to be the front door of the old watchtower.  Goblins! Rolen could see a pair of hobgoblin archers in the distance flanked by a small hoard of lesser goblins. The party rushed out to vanquish the goblins. As soon as most of the party was out of the tower, they quickly realized that the goblins were a bit more organized than usual.  That was when Thia noticed a goblin underboss sidle up to the archers and draw a sword - she knew the battle would be a fight.

The underboss

Pierce seemed to light up with a new found energy and charged from the back of the group and took a large swing at the underboss, who deftly side-stepped the attack and called his archers away from the large cleaving machine.  The party continued on, letting loose bolts and arrows, thrusting sword through goblin flesh.

Just as the tide of battle seemed to turn in favor of the adventurers, from the other side of the tower, a smaller group of three goblins appeared, flanking Rolen. Several hits were dealt to Rolen before he could take cover inside the tower.  Once inside, the goblins had him cornered, forcing Rolen to deftly battle his way out, crowding his main exit with their corpses.

Thia kept on the underboss for the partial cover of a tree, letting loose arrow after arrow, eventually felling him.  The last sound on the battlefield was the deafening sound of Pierce cleaving through the last hobgoblin archer.

The party left the bodies where they lay and took refuge in the watchtower for the night.  The goblin menace seemed to be quelled for the time being.

The end of the battle.
